JUNIOR INTER-REGIONALS 24-25 June 2006BAOC/SOC Bordon Heaths - Full Results Here What a wonderful weekend. The weather was fab, perhaps a little too hot on the Saturday. Thanks to all the team for their input. It was good to see Ciaran Allen and Ben Mitchell make their M14 debut - both putting in strong performances that helped Wales finish with a final overall placing of 6th out of 12 regions. Bordon Heat was an intricate area with some longer courses in each class than some of the Juniors have experienced, so they all performed well. Wales fielded two Boys and Girls relay teams with both scoring 87 points to take joint 5th place with WMOA. This must be one of Wales' strongest finishes for relays. The girls performed very well and had a best ever overall placing of 4th with 181 points. The Boys did well to come home in 7th place with 147 points. This meant that Wales finished in SIXTH place overall at the end of the 2 days. This was Wales' best result for 10 years. This gives the Juniors something to aim for next year - to beat Wales' best ever result of 5th in 1996. Kate Balmond JUNIOR INTER-REGIONALS 25-26 June 2005This year, the JIRC's competition was held in Nottingham, with the individual area being held on Carsington Pastures, an open, very runnable area with huge limestone crags towering well above 5 metres in places. Courses were longer than usually expected but with the underfoot terrain, times were fast. The weather was overcast and cloudy as we drove into the assembly field where we were greeted by a herd of cows and after a brief opening ceremony, starts were underway. The individual saw several Welshies in podium position with Rhodri, Anwen and Delyth finishing with 2nd, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Becky and Chris also did well running up in their age groups. Wales ended up a brilliant 6th after the individual. performance and effort from all the juniors who took part at JIRCS. For many
it was their first time in a major event running for Wales. The adults
were pretty good too... The weather was glorious and our spirits were high. On
the Individual Day: The
boys came in 9th place with 61points; the girls again in 9th place with 64
points. Finishing in 9th place overall.
On
the Relay Front: We came a final 6th place in both boys and girls with points
of 81 and 75 respectively. This
brought us in 5th place overall for the Team Relays.
Overall
Results: The
Men came in at joint 6th place with SWOA on 142 points. The Females also came in
6th place on 139 points. SO a very commendable finish of 7th place overall with
281 points. The
following table shows the final regional positions:
This
is probably one of our better results for a while; I like to think that all the
effort put into coaching the junior squad over the last few years may now be
coming to fruition. All the youngsters have made a determined effort to get
fitter and this has been reflected in the results. They are a credit to us all,
thank you to all the coaches and parents who have given their time and efforts
in supporting the Junior Squad. Kate Balmond, Junior Squad Team Manager |
